The list of active agencies in funding ISI articles in Iran based on ISI web of knowledge database is presented in Table 13. The obtained data did not validate with any other national organization in member countries. Based on public reports, INIC as the main policy making and development institutions in charge nanotechnology in Iran, up to 2015, has financialy supported more than 17600 research articles. However, for unknown reasons this has not been reflected in web of science statistics, hence shown as a very low number in figure 13.

Iran is the 57th largest export economy in the world and the 92nd most complex economy according to the Economic Complexity Index (ECI). In 2013, Iran exported $48.9B and imported $47.4B, resulting in a positive trade balance of $1.55B. In 2013, the GDP of Iran was $368B and its GDP per capita was $4.76k.
The top exports of Iran are Crude Petroleum ($33.1B), Ethylene Polymers ($2.49B), Iron Ore ($2.02B), Refined Petroleum ($1.61B) and Acyclic Alcohols ($1.6B), using the 1992 revision of the HS (Harmonized System) classification. Its top imports are Cocoa Beans ($3.19B), Rice ($2.46B), Gold ($1.66B), Soybean Meal ($1.53B) and Wheat ($1.3B).
The top export destinations of Iran are China ($22.9B), India ($9.1B), Ja-pan ($6.18B), South Korea ($4.99B) and Turkey ($1.3B). The top import origins are China ($13.7B), India ($5.4B), South Korea ($4.48B), Turkey ($4.12B) and Ghana ($3.18B).
EXHIBITIONS, COMPANIES, AND TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER CENTERS
Based on INIC report, 148 manufacturers are producing more than 266 nanotechnology products in Iran till 2014. Iran holds exhibitions in 28 different categories comprising 82 exhibitions during the year. These categories include building and construction, furniture and decoration, transportation and automobiles, food industry, oil and gas and petrochemistry, agriculture and animal husbandry, printing and advertising, electronic and computer and IT, tile and ceramics, medicine and pharmaceuticals, wood industry, paint and resin and coating, packaging, mine and related industries, cosmetics and hygienic, lab equipment, wire and cable, jewellery and watches, handmade carpet, environment, clothing and shoes and bags, urban management services, industry and machinery, water technology, cooling and heating, nuts and dried fruit, metallurgy, fire and safety.
TRADE WITH ECO COUNTRIES
Iran exports to six of ECO countries namely Turkey, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan comprising 2.7%, 0.7%, 0.39%, 0.32%, 0.16%, and 0.03% of Iran’s export respectively.
Iran also imports from ECO countries such as Turkey $4118M, Azerbaijan $69M, Pakistan $60M, Kazakhstan $0.26M, Afghanistan $10M, and Kyrgyzstan $6M.
